Rigid Tapping - Checking soft limits
What would be the best way to check for a violation of soft-limits on my Z axis prior to actually initiating motion in my rigid tapping program? (it's still just a fairly simple modification of the notifytapMach3 program, I got it working and never got time to make it better(tm) ).
I broke a tap today because as the tapping program plunged, the Z axis soft limit was hit, causing Z motion to feed hold while the spindle kept going
took me 20 minutes to figure that out and now I would like to prevent it from happening in the future BEFORE the tap plunges instead of at the bottom of the hole.

Re: Rigid Tapping - Checking soft limits
Most tapping C programs calculate a final Z depth. You should be able to simply compare that with the negative soft limit value.
If you can't figure it out post your tapping program and we may be able to help.
