Tach replacement options

Post by Scott Pancheau » Fri Dec 25, 2020 8:34 pm

Hi, I have a lathe I am finishing retrofitting to Dynomotion. The old control used encoder feed back translated to emulate tacho function. One of the axis has no place to add a tach to feed back to the servo drive now that the old control is out of the picture. I have a cheap DAC board that can receive encoder pulses and output dc voltage. It outputs the same polarity regardless of which direction the encoder is turned, so it won't work as a substitute for a tacho. Do you know of an option to purchase that will take the encoder pulses and emulate pos and neg voltage to the drive?
Thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott,

No I don’t. You might be able to do it with KFLOP.

Are these Analog drives? You might be able to just ground the tach input and operate as torque mode.

Thanks Tom,
They are analog DC servos in velocity mode.I found one that may work. I have to call the maker and ask.
