Custom Button File Pathway Issue

Post by Tim G » Wed Jul 23, 2025 11:14 pm

Well, I managed to mess some things up with my custom buttons in KmotionCNC again... I know just enough to be dangerous! I was cleaning house a bit, getting rid of old C files that weren't in use for my router setup anymore. I decided to change the name of a folder I had most of my machine's C files in, then had to change the pathway for all of the associated files in the Tool Setup Screen. After doing so, some of the custom buttons I created or modified in the Screen Editor threw an error, showing the old pathway to the C file it was supposed to execute. That made sense, so I went in the Screen Editor to adjust the pathway, but after doing so and getting the buttons to work again, KmotionCNC promptly "forgets" the pathway the next time I open it up and throws the same errors all over again. At this point, I have to redefine to file pathway for 3 of my buttons every time I run my machine. Any ideas why it keeps reverting to the old file pathway like that? The buttons will work repeatedly after changing the file pathways, but as soon as I go into the Screen Editor again after exiting out, or I shut off KmotionCNC and open it again, it reverts to the old button pathways.

Hi Tim,

Did you save the Screen Script file in the Screen Editor before exiting?

I believe so. I clicked "Set" for the pathway selection, and then clicked the other "Set" button for all of the button settings as a whole. Is that what you mean?

I added a couple of pictures for reference, but decided to do a quick screencast video to show you what's happening as well as a little more about the backstory that seemed to cause all of these issues. Hopefully this link to the video works okay: https://app.screencastify.com/watch/zeV ... 5Axw5DYZ8n

No. The first Set just sends the changes to KMotionCNC to see how it looks. The 2nd Set is for setting a line of script to be used for a Control.

Its Write Script on the Main Tab.

Perfect, thanks again, Tom! Just tried it...That really got me out of the woods. I'm slowly learning this stuff, but I always seem to forget a few key tidbits and know just enough to cause myself problems, ha!
