Re: Noise hunting

My original build uses Snapamp encoder inputs to keep the Kanalog free in case I wanted to add scales or any other wacky features. I don't think that is going to be a reality for this machine so moving them to Kanalog sounds like the thing to do. For my better understanding... 120 ohm termination me...

Re: Noise hunting

Alright, I will keep it all here in this thread. I prefer using your forum as well. For reference, this is the cnczone thread I started prior with my initial system spec's noted : https://www.cnczone.com/forums/dynomotion-kflop-kanalog/314376-pid-servo-tuning-snapamp-chicken-egg-variables.html I hav...

Re: Noise hunting

I tried using my tone/wire tracer to detect noise. It works pretty good as a rough indicator. It is part of an old "fox and hound" set by Triplett. They still make a newer version. I did not use the tone generator "fox", only the "hound" receiver as shown, since the tone is the noise in then lines. ...

Re: Noise hunting

Tom, thank you for all the notes. As always, I very much appreciate your high level of support. Since I have numerous contenders for source of noise with the older portion of my system wiring and components (built around 1994) and the subpar electric service at my location, my intent here was to loo...

Noise hunting

My gantry router has intermittent, random, seemingly impossible to repeat, but at this point totally expected noise issues feeding into the encoders. While I had identified several red flags in the wiring and setup, and mostly rectified them years ago with pretty darn good results, the remaining ite...

Re: Basic XY Screw Mapping - Geo Table

Thank you for taking a look. Past tests worked well with before and beyond the map range. I tested it under its development with varying scenarios and it seemed good. I have not tested it lately since I am mapping the full length. My MaxFollowingError=1000 30,000 encoder steps/inch Max position erro...

Re: Kanalog Opto in limit switch current LED

Tom,

An update on these Metrol limit switches...

The LED lights up plenty bright without adding any additional parallel resistors. The onboard series resistors on Kanalog do the trick without any extra mess!

The switches also seem well under the 5 micron repeatability for now.

Cheers!

Re: Basic XY Screw Mapping - Geo Table

Tom, The machine has been collecting dust for a handful of weeks waiting for me to finish my mapping process and some sweet spot temperate days. I am finishing up installing upgraded limit switches and cleaning out a few more cobwebs then should be running all the of programs to capture the map this...

Re: Kanalog Opto in limit switch current LED

Thanks, Tom. That was what I was thinking too. I do not really need the LED indicator. They will be hidden after assembly anyway. I would have simply ordered the non LED version if they were in stock.

Have a good weekend!

Kanalog Opto in limit switch current LED

I am upgrading my limit switches to 5 micron accurate limit switches from Metrol. They will be 24vDC and interfaced to the Kanalog opto isolated inputs on JP15. See attached PDFs for the switches. These switches have an LED in series without any current or voltage limiting included. Metrol suggests ...
