Subject: Mach3 Explainme
Tom,

I don't understand how kanalog + kflop working with the mach3. Do you
can explain me. Please. I need running the machine this weekend. I have
Allen Bradlley analog drives, Line driver encoders, 4 spindle, I drive
for the 4 spindles, limit switches, etc. I don't can try the drives
until I go to the factory. When I go to factory, I need ready working
with mach3 the inputs, outputs, encoders and after I can working with
the analog drives. Please help me.

Hi Jose,

Like I said in the last email you really need to go step-by-step and get the axes working in KMotion.exe before even attempting to run Mach3.

There isn't much you can do without the amplifiers and motors.

You could test that the encoders are wired correctly and count correctly.  Connect the differential line driver encoders to the Kanalog differential encoder inputs.  

Limit Switches are connected to KFLOP+Kanalog and configured in KMotion.exe not Mach3.  You can see if they are wired and working correctly using KMotion's Digital IO Screen.

There is a starting configuration for KFLOP+Kanalog called KanalogInitialPID.mot.  Load it into an axis channel from the KMotion Configuration Screen.  The basic first steps are to verify the hardware:

#1 - check the encoder counts correctly
#2 - check that the DACs can command the Amplifier to control motor speed.  Test Console commands like DAC0=200  (with the axis disabled)
#3 - Enable the Servo using the Step Response Screen.  Zero, Enable

Ok, I follow your instructions and setup a analog drive with motor to
explain me the step I need to go for successful application.

1.- All input and oputputs is working. Only one thing. when apply power
to the kanalog+kflop the bits 144 thru 151 goes ON and when the led in
the kanalog+kflop go steady the bits 144 thru 151 goes off. This is a
problem because we start 8 outputs until really control. please let me
know how to start in OFF that bits.

2.- When the axis is disable the motor moves a little. I don't want to
move. Please let me know what I can to stop the motor in disable axis
mode. When I enable axis the motor remains motion less.

3.- I can command DAC0=XXX and working fine in both directions.

Please help me with the first 2 issues.

Regarding:

#1 - Unfortunately the Kanalog Outputs power up an random states until initialized.

But the SWE is guaranteed to remain off until all the outputs are initialized off.  You can use SWE to keep everything off until the outputs are initialized.

#2 - To keep the axes from moving when the axes are disabled you will need to disable the amplifiers.  You will need to interface the amplifier enables to KFLOP or Kanalog outputs. 

There is a C Program example called watchenable.c that can be used to activate an output whenever an axis is disabled.

It would help if you gave us more information on what your background is and what parts you understand.

Only use the "Move" button.  Do not use the "Step" Button.

The Blue plot is is the commanded trajectory (how we want to move).

The Red Plot is the measured Encoder Position Response (how it is really moving)

The Green Plot is the Output being sent to the Amplifier.

Your system is totally unstable and oscillating at the maximum allowed amount.  Because the Error is limited to 200 encoder counts.  And the P gain is 0.2.  The Maximum Output is 200 x 0.2 = 40 DAC counts.

Try reducing the P Gain to try to get the system to stop oscillating.

Try adding D gain to dampen the oscillations.

Do you know what mode your Amplifier is in?  Velocity?  Torque?

You said the DAC test was ok.  But you did not tell us any thing about what happened.

Hi Jose,

To test the Amplifier using DAC commands you should check different speeds.  2047 (+10V) should run the motor a your max desired speed.  1024 should run at half speed.  Small number like 10 or 20 should run very slow.  You should test if the amplifier is really controlling Velocity.  If you apply a load does the motor speed remain constant?

It is unusual for a Velocity Servo to be so unstable with such low gain.  So it is important to check the amplifier carefully.
